Two weeks before her daughter Ashley's 25th birthday Margaret came to my studio with a Victorian cameo brooch that had been in the family for several generations. She wanted it made into a necklace as a gift for Ashley. I asked Margaret about her daughter's interests and style. She told me that Ashley is a makeup and hair stylist, and an independent woman with an excellent sense of humor. She also strongly suggested that I use silver, as Ashley prefers it. I removed the cameo from its original brass setting and re-set it into a silver vintage brooch backing after sawing off the pin. I then proceeded to transform it into one of my famous "cluster pendants" and included charms that represent a makeup compact, classic hair style, and creative inspiration. After that I made a nice chunky 30" chain to go with the pendant - for an added bonus I made it just long enough to be doubled up into a choker. What a wonderful gift from mother to daughter.
